• Fails to stop at intersection

A pickup and a tractor/semi-trailer collided at an intersection on Jan. 4 at 5:49 p.m.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that Adriana Marina Pena, 25, of Worthington, Minn., was driving northbound and failed to stop at the intersection of Nettle Avenue and 460th Street. Pena’s 2015 Ford F150 crashed into the drive wheel of a 2016 Kenworth tractor/semi-trailer driven by Rick Allen Hollander, 42, of Spencer, which was traveling east on 460th Street. The accident was witnessed by the driver of a vehicle traveling behind the semi.

Pena was transported to Orange City Area Health System by the Paullina Ambulance for treatment of suspected minor/non-incapacitating injuries. Also transported was Enzo Pena, 2, who complained of pain or injury. Hollander was not injured.

Damage to the Pena vehicle was estimated at $15,000. The damage estimate for the Kenworth, owned by Hawkeye Transport LLC, of Spencer, was $12,000.

Pena was cited for Fail to Obey Stop Sign and Yield Right of Way.

• Collide in intersection

The Sioux County Sheriff’s Office investigated a motor vehicle accident that occurred at the intersection of Hickory Avenue and 410th Street, one mile east of Sioux Center on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 3:41 p.m.

The report stated that Trevor Engeltjes, 28, of Everly, was driving a 2006 Ford F-350 pulling a stock trailer northbound on Hickory Avenue, and Pieter Westerbeek V, 17, of Sioux Center, was driving a 2007 Ford F-150 westbound on 410th Street. The two vehicles collided in the intersection.

Westerbeek was transported to Sioux Center Health by the Sioux Center Ambulance for treatment of injuries.

The F350 and trailer sustained approximately $25,000 in damage. Damage to the F-150 was estimated at $20,000. Engeltjes was cited for Failure to Yield to Vehicle on the Right and for Operating a Vehicle with Expired Registration.

• Blizzard conditions contribute to accident

Blizzard conditions on Dec. 23 contributed to a traffic accident which occurred on U.S. Highway 18/320th Street at 12:11 p.m.

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office reported that vehicles driven by Amy Lee Wingert, 34, of Sheldon, and Brittany Ann Rook, 22, of Little Rock, were both westbound on Highway 18. The 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 driven by Rook rear ended the 2020 Chevrolet Equinox Premier driven by Wingert. Visibility was a factor in the collision. Both vehicles were pushed off the traveled portion of the highway by a police vehicle, as clearing the roadway immediately was necessary. Sanborn Fire Department provided traffic control.

Wingert was transported by law enforcement to Sanford Sheldon Medical Center for treatment of minor/non-incapacitating injuries. Rook was not injured.

Damage to the Equinox was estimated at $15,000 while damage to the Ram was listed at $8,000.

• Hits snowdrift on roadway

A snowdrift on the road contributed to an accident that occurred on Dec. 31 at 8:30 p.m.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, a 1995 Ford F350 driven by Mark Daniel Meyers, 23, of Hartley, was eastbound in the 5700 mile of 340th Street when it hit a snowdrift. The pickup lost traction and went into the north ditch where it rolled and came to rest on its side.

No injuries were reported. Damage was estimated at $1,500. Meyers was cited for Failure to Maintain Control.
