• Pursuit ends near Germantown

A pursuit by law enforcement that began in Osceola County ended near Germantown with deputies having to remove the driver from his vehicle.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle on Sunday, Dec. 13. A deputy responded and the vehicle, a blue Dodge Journey, fled the area attempting to elude the deputy. The vehicle pulled into a farm place just north of the O’Brien/Osceola County line in an attempt to hide from law enforcement.

As an O’Brien County deputy pulled into the farm place the driver drove through the ditch causing significant damage to the Journey. The vehicle exited the ditch, striking the Osceola County deputy’s vehicle. The driver fled south into O’Brien County on Oak Hill Avenue with law enforcement pursuing. During the pursuit the Clay County Sheriff’s Office notified deputies that the Journey matched the description of a stolen vehicle from Spencer.

Deputies followed the vehicle through O’Brien County and it was eventually stopped on the north side of Germantown. According to authorities, the driver refused to show his hands or unlock the driver’s door. A deputy broke the driver’s side window and placed the red targeting laser of his Taser on the driver. The driver, Bradley Tyler Kots, 24, of Sutherland, then complied and exited the vehicle. He was taken to the ground and handcuffed.

Deputies confirmed that the Dodge Journey was stolen from Spencer.

Kots was booked into the O’Brien County Jail and charged with the following misdemeanors: OWI 1st Offense; Driving While Under Suspension; Reckless Driving; Possession of Methamphetamines; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; Passing in a No Passing Zone; Fail to Yield Half of Roadway; Fail to Obey Stop Sign (five offenses); and Speeding. Kots was also charged with two felonies: Theft in the 2nd Degree and Eluding.

According to the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office, Kots is also suspected of numerous vehicle thefts in the area and charges are pending the outcome of these investigations.

Agencies that assisted the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office were the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, Sheldon Police Department, O’Brien County Conservation and the Iowa State Patrol.
