Letters: Pause and remember our veterans on Nov. 11

Veterans Day has a long history in our great country. It was first established on May 13, 1938. This was a day to be dedicated to the cause of world peace and to be thereafter celebrated and known as Armistice Day. This was a day that was set aside to honor veterans of World War 1.
Many changes of date occurred throughout the years following World War II and the Korean Conflict. President Gerald Ford signed a bill into law on Sept. 20, 1975 which returned the annual observance of Veterans Day to the original date, Nov. 11, to begin in November of 1978.
