Georgieann Dorothy O’Brien was born Dec. 9, 1929 in Cedar Falls, to George and Dora (Drogemueller) O’Brien. Georgieann grew up in nearby Greene County with three sisters, Frances, Fontell and Alberta, and a brother, John. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene.

On July 12, 1947, Georgieann married Lloyd Kingery in Greene. Together they farmed in Greene, Marble Rock and Tripoli while raising their family. Farming involved the whole family. They believed a family worked together. The family moved to Royal in October 1965. They had been married for 66 years when Lloyd passed away in 2013.

Home and family were central to Georgieann. She was an incredible cook and baker, as well as an avid gardener. Summers were spent tending to vegetable and flower gardens. Autumn was spent harvesting and preserving the spoils of their labor. There were always freshly baked biscuits and on Sunday, fried chicken and apple pie, too.

Creativity was an important part of Georgieann’s life. She was a talented crafter, producing beautiful wreaths and flower arrangements, beautiful dolls and other decorations. She loved to decorate her home, especially for the holidays. Her love of nature was reflected in those creations.

Georgieann was involved in school, 4-H and fair activities with her children and husband. She worked for PAG Research, led the bean-walking crew, and waitressed. She was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal. She loved to watch birds and fish. Georgieann loved bowling and being on the league with her friends. She and Lloyd enjoyed international travel. As passionate Iowa fans, they watched the Hawkeyes play in the Rose Bowl in Pasadena and attended the Rose Bowl Parade.

Children, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, were a special blessing to Georgieann. She loved spending time with each of them. The lessons she shared will never be forgotten.

Georgieann became a much-beloved member of the Tripoli Nursing Home community, where her wit, her charm and her faith endeared her to all.

Georgieann passed away at the Tripoli Nursing Home in Tripoli on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020, at the age of 90. She was the loving wife for 66 years to the late Lloyd Kingery; devoted mother of Cynthia (Larry) Schroeder, Constance Bishop, Paul, Anthony, Cecilia (Larry) Pedersen, Brian (Kathy), Brad (Linda), Cathy Jensen, Brent and Gregory (Debra); and to 25 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren; and sister to John (Diane) O’Brien.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons: Anthony and Brent; and her three sisters: Frances Shaffer (Ivan), Fontell Deines (Joseph) and Alberta Dolan (James).
