Clay County 4-H'ers compete at 4-H Show Iowa

October 8, 2020

This year continues to be very different and the 2020 4-H Show Iowa took the place of the Iowa State Fair for Clay County 4-H human sciences and communication exhibitors.

Clay County 4-Hers did an excellent job of representing the area. Twenty-three human sciences exhibits were sent for state judging, with 17 receiving blue ribbons and six earning reds.

Clay County 4-Hers also had the opportunity to demonstrate their communication skills by sending in a video of the qualifying communication. One received a Seal of Merit and one received a participation award. Communication skills that were judged were educational presentations, working exhibit presentations and Share-the-Fun acts.

According to Mitch Hoyer, program coordinator for Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 4-H Youth Development, there were no individual presentations this year, but effective communication still means appealing to the interests of the audience.
