• Arrested on sexual abuse charges

A Sanborn woman was arrested on sexual abuse charges stemming from alleged incidents that occurred five years ago.

Records state that Cheri Jo McDonald, 36, of Sanborn, was arrested in connection with incidents that allegedly occurred from May 1-Oct. 1, 2015. The Sanborn Police Department filed charges on Sept. 2 and a warrant was issued for her arrest on Sept. 3. O’Brien County deputies took her into custody on Sept. 8. She was released on bond the same day.

McDonald was charged with 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse, a Class C felony. She is accused of engaging in sex acts with a male who was 14 or 15 years old at the time and was a member of the same household.

• Additional information on accident

The O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office released additional information regarding the accident involving Jenny Lynn Baier, 56, of Royal.

Baier was driving eastbound on 455th Street near Yew Avenue on Aug. 28 at 6:45 p.m. According to the report, she told her husband that she had fallen asleep and did not see the turn. The investigation indicated that Baier’s 2012 Ford Fusion went off the road, struck a field driveway, went airborne and landed nose first in the ditch. It then continued eastbound and struck a dead man support wire holding a utility pole upright. The top 15-20 feet of the pole snapped in half.

The report stated that Baier has health issues. She had an accident two days prior and had not been sleeping well.

Damage to the Fusion was estimated at $6,000 and damage to the utility pole owned by North West REC was listed at $2,000.
