A memorial service for Melissa M. Sebastian was held Tuesday, Aug. 11, 2020, at the Warner Funeral Home in Everly. Pastor Lee Laaveg officiated. Interment was in Lone Tree Cemetery near Everly. Warner Funeral Home in Everly assisted with the arrangements.

Melissa Marie Sebastian, the daughter of Edward and Karen McClurg, was born on July 16, 1962, in Spirit Lake. Her childhood years were spent in Spirit Lake where she graduated in 1980.

Melissa married Kevin (Sebastian) on July 1, 1996. They moved to Everly in the spring of 1997. Melissa and Kevin had recently celebrated their 24th wedding anniversary. They loved each other deeply.

Melissa loved animals from an early age. This love for animals led her to the Medical Institute of Minnesota where she studied to become a vet tech. She always had a soft spot for an animal in need, often bringing home one or two. Throughout the years Melissa worked in several factories. She was known for her hard work ethic, a value she learned early working on the family’s farm. Melissa spent the last 13 years working for Menards in the garden department.

Melissa enjoyed gardening, updating her home, decorating for the holidays and spending time with her family and friends.

Melissa passed away at Sioux Falls, S.D. on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020, at the age of 58, after a courageous battle with breast cancer.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Kevin; daughter, Ashley (Ryan) Schofield and granddaughter, Paisley; son, Michael (Nicole) Grubb; brother, Dan (Katie) McClurg; sisters, Susan (Todd) Lynn and Sandra McClurg; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Karen (Moritz) McClurg, and her grandparents.

Melissa will be remembered for her warm smile, compassion and strength. She was loved by many and will be missed greatly.
