There are few traces left of the old Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn Middle School.

Cleanup work at the Sanborn site is nearly complete. On Monday, only the basement area under the old gym needed the excavator's attention, as rubble and steel from the two-story portion of the facility had been removed off site. Tree limbs were being trucked away from the area and crews could be seen progressing with foundation work on the north and west portions of the property.

The middle school was demolished in mid-July to make way for an expansive upgrade project. Only a portion of the school built in the 1990s was kept for future use.

Current plans call for the new middle school to open sometime in 2021. H-M-S's new elementary building will open to teachers and students later this month.
