Letters: 2 people can make a big difference in a small town

July 23, 2020

To the editor:

When you live in a small town, it is always easy to find things to complain about. We often recognize what is wrong rather than what is being done right.

I would like to acknowledge two men in Everly who are making a positive difference in our community. Our city worker, Nate Fitzgerald, has brought a new level of pride to the work he does, whether it is plowing in the winter or maintaining our parks and trees and keeping the mosquito population minimized in the spring and summer. Nate has brought an excellence in all he does, and he shows pride in his community.

Another unsung hero of our community is a member of the school board. It is easy to be critical of the board because of our current uncertain situation. Our school grounds had become an eye sore, and Denny Dalen took care of it this past week. Not only did he do a good job of mowing all around the grounds, he also weeded around the school and the ball diamonds. What was to be a problem for all of us who live around the school has now been changed.

Because of Nate all year around, and Denny who stepped up to the plate when no one else has, our community again can be proud of how our property is being maintained. I would like to give a special thank you and hats off to Nate and Denny. You have made a difference in our community.

Dave Hoye,

Everly
