• Respond to oven fire

The Hartley Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 210 North 3rd Avenue East, at midnight on Saturday, June 27.

It was reported that a pizza box left in the oven caught fire when the occupants turned it back on. A law enforcement officer and a firefighter living near the scene put out the fire with an extinguisher before firefighters arrived. The house was ventilated to remove the smoke.

The fire was contained to the oven, but some smoke damage occurred. Firemen were on the scene for approximately 30 minutes.

• Vehicle leaves roadway

A vehicle left the roadway during an accident that occurred on July 3 at 10:15 p.m.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office reported that Davin Brugman, 19, of Peterson, was westbound on 440th Street when he fell asleep. His 2005 Chevrolet Monte Carlo entered the south ditch and struck the culvert area at the intersection of 160th Avenue and 440th Street. It crossed 160th Avenue, entered the south ditch and stopped in a cornfield.

No injuries were reported. Damage to the vehicle owned by Danny Brugman was listed at $8,000.

• Hedge blocks driver’s view

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched on June 27 at approximately 10:50 a.m., for a report of a two-vehicle collision at the intersection of 420th Street and 270th Avenue.

The report stated that Allen Bohr, 62, of Royal, was driving southbound in the 4200 mile of 270th Avenue and failed to see a westbound vehicle driven by Melissa Cunningham, 43, of Greenville. A large hedge located on the corner blocked Bohr’s view. He cut the corner short, causing his 2017 Jeep Wrangler to collide with Cunningham’s 2013 Honda Pilot.

Cunningham was seen by the Spencer Ambulance for a report of minor neck pain and released. Damage estimates were $4,000 for the Bohr vehicle and $7,000 for the Cunningham vehicle. Bohr was cited for Failure to Yield Half of Roadway.
